Summer, Solved

Summer is finally here; the kids are off school, the temperature is rising, and you’re starting to plan for that long awaited vacation. While the summer months may not be quite as different as other months for us Floridians, prepping our home can help us make the most of some of our hottest yet best months of the year. Keep reading to find out how you can make a splash this summer.

  • Cool off and change those filters:  Air conditioning is the most crucial in the summer months. Before you get caught up with relaxing by the pool, make sure you change your A/C filters for zero allergy irritants and fresh airflow when you come inside. Be sure to do it as soon as possible, too, before everyone else starts scrambling for new filters.

  • Let the season inspire new home decor: Winter was a time for cool colors and cozy home accents; summer is just the opposite. Buy some bright flowers for your dining table center piece, bring out the colorful throw pillows from storage, and place a season-appropriate doormat  outside your home to welcome guests. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, take on a new paint-job to bring some vibrant colors back into your home.  We like “Coral Buff” and “Highland Breeze” from Benjamin Moore.

  • Get your grill on: It’s time to take the cover off of that grill you’ve been storing in the garage or the corner of your patio. Start cleaning your grill by following this step-by-step guide to get a jump start on those barbecue recipes (here’s a list of some of the best ones). Aside from outdoor cooking, you can also make some changes inside, like cleaning out the freezer to make room for popsicles, pre-made hamburger patties, and frozen adult drinks.

  • Up your gardening game: The exterior of your home is just as important to prep for summer as the inside is. Untangle your outside hose, clean out your backyard shed, and take out all of those gardening tools you’ll need to fix up the yard. Plant some bright flowers, trim your shrubs, and rid your sidewalks and driveway of weeds. Here’s some landscaping inspiration.

Whatever you do this summer, be sure to make appropriate changes to your home to easily transition into the season, and have as much fun as you can. And whether you’re staying or leaving South Florida, be sure to give us a call so we can match you to one of our many services. Happy summer from the Collins & Company team!
